Why did you decide to become a radiologist?
Radiology chose me. I enjoyed most, but not all, aspects of all of the specialties I rotated through in Medical School in my 3rd year. It wasn't until I rotated through Interventional Radiology in my 4th year that I thought I had found my calling. That one month turned into the 5 months of Radiology rotations in my 4th year that cemented my decision. I began interviewing for Radiology residencies with the full intent of becoming an Interventional Radiologist but, as often happens in life, during my journey I found another path and Neuroradiology became my final destination.
What is your favorite part of being a radiologist?
I tell anyone who will listen that I have the best job in the world. Radiology is intellectually challenging; just when you begin to think you've seen it all, you see a patient with a diagnosis you have never made before. It can be exhausting but there is ALWAYS that one patient that makes the whole day or week worthwhile. There have been many nights when I don't care to see another imaging study, but there has NEVER been a morning where I was not excited to sit down and open that first case. My favorite things about Radiology are the collegial discussions with other Radiologists about interesting cases, the chance to make a difference in the patient's life and well being, and the intellectual challenge of each and every case.
Why do you enjoy working for Suburban Imaging?
There are many reasons I like working in the Suburban Imaging group: I love the mix of cases that come though our system; there are many more patients with new or acute diagnoses than the academic practice I was at previously. All of my colleagues are bright, energetic and happy to share expertise. The practice runs like a well-oiled machine thanks to all the administrative and support staff. Lastly, but most importantly, everyone is professional and NICE!
